Every year, the Louisiana Junior Jersey
Association sponsors a variety of events for participation by club
members.

Grace Jacobson won the calf raffle in 2008.
Her prize was this Registered
Jersey heifer calf, donated by Chappepeela Jerseys in Loranger.
In the spring, the club sponsors a calf
raffle, to raise funds for activities during the year. A prize is
awarded to the junior who sells the most raffle tickets.
This past year, Rebecca Pearce, Maringouin, was
the high-selling junior, selling $240 in raffle tickets and earning prizes
of $75 and a plaque.
Other high-selling juniors included: Ayla
Baugh ($230 in tickets and prizes of $50 and a Jersey box);
Delos Thompson III ($226 in tickets and prizes of $25 and Jersey stationary);
Daniel Thompson ($214 in tickets and prizes of $15 and Jersey stationary);
and Michael Landry ($202 in tickets and prizes of $10 and Jersey
stationary).

High sellers in the 2008 Calf Raffle were
Rebecca Pearce, Ayla Baugh, Delos
Thompson III, Daniel Thompson and Michael Landry.
In the summer and
fall, junior members participate in a number of shows, including local
parish shows, district shows and the state show. Several members also
exhibit animals at the All American Junior Jersey Show, held every year
in November, in Louisville, Kentucky.
As well, Louisiana State University
sponsors an expense-paid trip to the Mid-South Junior Jersey Fair for
the 20 juniors whose animals are selected to represent the state at the
show. The Fair is held in Memphis, Tennessee, in early October.

This year, for the second time, the junior
association awarded the Dusty Perry Award at the Louisiana State
Livestock Show
for the best fitted animal. In her first year of competition, Annabelle
Kimbrough won the contest and received a buckle. Other juniors who
earned prizes were: Zack Swain ($50 prize), second; Joyce Shattuck ($25
prize), third; Braden Williams ($15 prize), fourth; and Sarah Shattuck
($10 prize), fifth. The award's namesake, Dusty Perry, won seven
consecutive showmanship competitions, culminating his senior year in
2006.
The annual meeting is held after the
state show each year. This is the largest gathering of junior members.
Club officers are elected and a queen and princess are chosen.
